FALMOUTH Police allege that a Falmouth man was drunk when he drove his car into a building early today and decapitated a mother mallard duck caring for her 10 ducklings. Thomas Brown, 26, was traveling south on Scranton Avenue at 12:15 am when he failed to make the hairpin turn onto Clinton Avenue, police said. Bud Tietje, who founded Patriot Party Boats and helped construct the building in the early 1960s, said the building sustained minor damage but the fence along the walkway was completely destroyed. The mother mallard duck was found dead near the car, but the 10 ducklings were all alive when animal control officers transported them from the scene. The live baby ducks and two eggs are currently at the Cape Cod Wildlife Center where they are being assessed, according to an employee there. The ducks nest as well as one damaged egg remained at the scene this morning. Police said Brown was taken to Falmouth Hospital, but suffered no serious injuries. BOURNE, MA- One Dead, One Critically Injured in Drunk Driving DUI Crash (10-18-09)

BOURNE â€” An Attleboro man was apparently driving drunk when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed off the Otis Rotary early yesterday morning, killing his stepfather and seriously injuring his mother, according to the police. The family was heading north on Route 28 in Bourne after attending a wedding, a state trooper told a Cape Cod Times freelance photographer at the scene. Just after midnight, Shawn Potrzuski, 32, of Attleboro apparently ran his 2003 Dodge Durango off of the road, crossed over Connery Avenue, entered the woods and struck a tree, according to a state police press release. Speed is also believed to have contributed to the crash, police said. Robert Coffey, 46, of Attleboro â€” Potrzuski’s stepfather, according to a trooper at the scene â€” was riding in the back seat. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was taken to Falmouth Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. His wife, Karen Coffey, 53, who was sitting in the frontseat, was also taken to Falmouth Hospital with serious injuries. Her condition was not available last night. Potrzuski was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The police said Potrzuski and his mother were both wearing seat belts.
